About the Author
KRISTEN JOHNSTON is an actress, a teacher, and now, an enormously celebrated writer. Johnston is one of the founding executive directors of SLAM, a board dedicated to creating New York City's first sobriety-focused high school. She lives in NYC with her pit bull Pinky, who suffers from a food addiction.

Born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Mike Johnston has had a long and notable career coaching hockey, including coaching and assistant coaching for the Vancouver Canucks in 1999, Canada's National Men's Team, the Canada Selects, Canada's 1998 Winter Olympics team, Canada's junior team, Team Canada at the World Championships from 1995 to 1998 and again in 2007 as well as the University of New Brunswick men's Varsity Reds hockey team, where he was 1994 coach of the year. Mike was an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Kings from 2006 to 2008 and is currently the head coach and general manager of the WHL's Portland Winter Hawks.

Great Condition, but Book Pics Need to be Updated

I really like this book. It breaks everything down and includes all the basic techniques you need to start as an IV tech. The pictures of people and equipment need to be updated since they look like they were from the 80s or early 90s and some of the pictures showing techniques don't really give enough detail (i.e. a before and after picture with no inbetween about how to get to the after). Other than that, the book was awesome and delivered in excellent condition.

The important of septic technique can not be over emphasizer. Anyone familiar with Emily Law with know sterile procedure in not a playing issue in pharmacy.

I was honored and humbled to be able to sit and learn these old stories from elders hailing from many First Nations tribes. Comanche, Dineh, Apache, Anishinabe, Aztec, Cherokee, Creek, Cheyenne, Lakota, and Mohawk are a few of the tribes whose elders shared their beautiful stories with me. I listened eagerly to these accounts that were passed down from generation to generation while understanding filled my spirit and I was asked to pass these stories along to the next generation.

These are stories that were told before missionary contact and I realized with each story that I listened to I had heard them before…not from my tribe but from another ancient tribe who has left an impacting legacy on the earth with the greatest story ever told within a book called The Bible.

The Creator planted the seed in my heart to write this book as a way to help build the bridge of reconciliation between the nations. You might laugh, cry, sing for joy or wail from the deepest parts of your soul. Betrayal, love, reconciliation, unity, sacrifice, joy, peace, history, archaeology, science, the perseverance of the human spirit and the longing for Creator to heal our land and broken hearts. A longing for our spirit to be uplifted from the only One who can give us Hope in the face of utter defeat and despair.

Inspiring and insightful

I loved this book.

It is clear from the beginning pages just how much it was written from the heart and that made the experience of reading it touch me on a personal level and changed the way I view my own past.

Even though this book is packed with recent and historical information, it didn't feel as if the author was just informing or teaching me, but rather like he was talking to me. It felt like I was sitting there with him and PipeCarrier, sharing in that warm crackling fire, hearing the sounds of the forest, and learning the truth about a culture for which I have felt so many mixed emotions about throughout my life.

It changed me to read those stories- to hear them told in my head as I imagined myself there. I realized that much of what the author was discussing had also impacted my life through my mother's. Because of the life my beloved half-white, half-native mother endured, I grew up with a strange love-hate mixture of feelings towards the past and present actions of the Europeans, Americans, and Native Americans. Because my mother grew up without her native father in her life, she only had an understanding of her white Irish family's culture and since he wasn't there because he had abandoned them, she was shamed out of ever learning his. Once she became a believer in Jesus, she was further ostracized from the Native culture by all of the disinformation taught about who, how, and what the First Nations worship and believe in. Like everyone else, she was taught by school, media, movies, etc., that Natives were all polytheists ranging anywhere from New Age gurus to out-right Voodoo shamans. As someone who loves Yeshua (Jesus) so very much, she didn't want to ever hurt His feelings by touching any of that stuff; and so she stamped down most of the inner longings that she had to learn or experience her Native heritage. She didn't know that the information she was taught was wrong. She never knew how her tribe were believers and worshippers of Yahweh (the Creator) and His son Yeshua (Jesus) long before Europeans came to these shores. She did not know, nor understand that He had revealed Himself to them just as the Bible declared that He would. My mother's passing was 5 years ago and most of the benevolent thoughts or feelings that I had about myself being part Native American pretty much died with her then too. That is until I heard Chief Joseph and Dr. Laralyn Riverwind as guests on a radio program and read this book. It was then that I began to learn the truth about just how very "biblically accurate" the pre-European Native American's beliefs were. They called Him Yah, they called His son Yeshua, they praised Him with drums and flutes and dancing! With each similarity between some First Nations beliefs and my own, the flame of desire that had once been stamped down in my mother surprisingly began to flare up again in me! Now I want to know my Creator and Savior the way my mother's culture did. More importantly, I want to do my part to share the truth in this book in order to spare any Native American Christian the pain that my mother had to endure- of needlessly rejecting a heritage and culture that He meant for them to have as a means of coming closer to and learning more about Him.

A must read for those who think they know it all

Very informative. Great insight into missions failures. White man rationalized with irrational, insane, inhumane thoughts. It never ceases to amaze me that one can assume to know more or think they're better than another of God's children. We each serve a purpose, with different knowledge and skills. Just because I do something different from the way you would doesn't make it automatically evil.

This is an amazing book FULL of wisdom of God passed to the American Native Tribes. Chief Riverwood has collected oral teachings passed down for centuries and written them down for us. This book is a little rough around the edges has typos etc but is so rich in its content that the reader can easily forgive that. It is very timely reading this as Canada fires rage out of control as Josephs people were told generations ago that fires would rage across all of America in the last days..................truly amazing book and from such an unexpected source! EVERYONE should read this book.

I'm very glad I have discovered essential oils

I purchased this book last week. I'm not much of a reader (more a skimmer) but I didn't want to put the book down. I learned so much about Essential Oils in general and the difference between Young Living's and other brands. I learned a little bit of science and A LOT of Bible! I'm not sure if we were taught about essential oils in Sunday School when I was growing up but we should have been. There are so many stories of how they were used buy Jesus, his disciples, etc. It made me wonder why many Christians don't believe in natural healing when it has been given to us by God to use. They believe in prayer but not the sources of plants.
Anyway, I'm very glad I have discovered essential oils, their power, and that I chose a company that stands behind their mission of making 100% essential oils (not 50% essential oil & 50% other).
If you are interested in essential oils and would like an easy and fun read, please consider this book.

A must read for all men who have a wife involved in essential oils. Andrew Jenkins puts clearly and concisely into words what it takes to learn about oils, business, and helping your spouse. A great read that had my wife and I laughing as we learned.

About the Author
Danica McKellar is the bestselling author of Kiss My Math, Hot X: Algebra Exposed, and, most recently, Girls Get Curves. Imagine "Teen Cosmo" publishing INTRO TO MIDDLE-SCHOOL MATH

When I was seven, my mother got a Mathematics degree. At 29, I got my own Mathematics degree—and of 60 people that day who got Math bachelor degrees then and there with me, only three were women. My mother proved, and those three co-graduating women proved, and Danica proves now, that women can learn math. But that's not what middle-school and high school girls think, is it? Most teen girls think they're math-morons.

Danica has written this book for such math-panicked teen girls—Danica has written this book not only to TEACH them, but to ENCOURAGE them: "You can learn this!"

The math covered in Danica's book is middle-school level—Danica presumes that the reader already knows how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide; then Danica takes the reader up through Algebra I. Danica's math is solid; and Danica's explanations, easy to understand.

But this is not your brother's math book. If you flipped through the book quickly, not reading the text, the illustrations and all the girly-handwriting would make you think that it was a book about teen fashion. The book also has chapter headings like no other math book I've seen—Chapter 7, for instance, is entitled, "Is Your Sister Trying to Cheat You Out of Your Fair Share? (Comparing Fractions)." Chapter 9, on complex fractions, starts out, "Say you're trying on an outfit for a party. You've got the dress, the shoes, and the earrings—and now you're choosing the right necklace...."

Danica also includes three "testimonials" (profiles) of young women who are successful in their careers because they've mastered math. Rather than show three nerdettes, the three women profiled are BABES.

To me, the most amazing thing about her book is that she tells the "blank quiz" story about herself: In a seventh-grade math class, "[w]hen the bell rang and my quiz was still blank, I wanted to disappear into my chair. I just didn't want to EXIST."

When I read this book, I learned something. Not about math, but about people. Middle-school girls, in particular. I give this book a 4.99999999999999999...-star rating.

Makeup and math? Hallelujah!

What will this book teach your daughter? That she can work out math problems by herself. That she can learn to love math, and even excel at it. And that she can do these things while still being every bit as girlie as she wants to be. Makeup and math? Yes, this book says, you can love them both.

Will girls read it? I think so, because, unlike so many academic texts, "Math Doesn't Suck" is so much more than a study guide. Author McKellar -- yes, Winnie Cooper from "The Wonder Years" but also a summa cum laude math grad from UCLA -- combines a step-by-step approach to middle-school math concepts with lots of personal anecdotes (such as how she once struggled with particular math problems) as well as stories of how other feminine women have excelled in the subject. Also adding some insight is McKellar's 12-year-old goddaughter, Tori.

Best of all, McKellar makes her points well. Each chapter is devoted to just one topic (i.e., decimals, or factoring) and uses real-life situations (baby-sitting, shopping) that really make things easy to understand.

Overall the book's chapter titles are a little too pink-and-purple for my tastes, but then again I'm not the target audience. I'm not 13, striving to define myself while getting Paris Hilton, the Pussycat Dolls and Hooters commercials driven into my brain. Girls can be smart AND feminine? Math is for them? Say amen, somebody!

Tested out of 2 Math College classes with this book

I am a 38-year old mother of 5 who recently decided to go back to school. I took my placement test and tested into the lowest class available which was Basic Math. I was told that I could retake the test so I went to the library and checked out a bunch of math books to study and get prepared. I found Danica's book "Math Doesn't Suck" I read it first and read the entire book in one night. I loved it and everything began to make sense. I studied it for 2 weeks then went back and took my test again and tested into Intro to Algebra! I essentially skipped Basic Math and Pre-Algebra! This achievement has brought me renewed confidence in myself at a time when I need it most! It has saved me money and time that is so valuable to me. I live in Southern Ohio and am attending Hocking College! I am excited to read "Kiss my Math". Also I was told that she is writing a 3rd book in an email from her company. Thanks for writing a book that actually makes sense!
