Excellent practicle guide to Chan Buddhist practice

Ever since D.T. Suzuki the great Zen scholar died no one had been able to take his place introducing the heart of Buddhist practice. Master Nan is not only a comprehensive practitioner of wide range of Buddhism, Varjrayana, Chan Buddhism, Yogacran and also Taoist Qigong practitioners. He bridged the very needed insight into the treasure house of ancient Chinses wisdom injecting a new vigor to the Beat Zen mumble jumble of talking Buddhist that is so pervalent of our time. The Book is a translation of his dharma talks during one of his intensive retreat period. In between the lines, the reader can feel the great love and compassion he had toward his students and all beings. He has tremendous humor and many time laugh with us at our own hazy moon of enlightenment nature. Like what he sayed that spiritual awaken sometime is a fine line between crazy wisdom or just plain craziness. Insanity has also a very convincing subjective self nature. This book will be like drinking a glass of cool water and a antidote to the excessive intellectual college professor Buddhism that is overflooded the earth and media. If you are a sincere practitioner then this book is for you.

why is this not digitally available

I understand the out of print nature translating to a currently very high price, but why has this not been made digitally available yet? Do I have to destroy my copy to do so?? This book is an utter gem for those cultivating the buddhist path, even at the high price it is absolutely worth it if you have no other way to obtain this perspective.

My own teacher one of Master Nan's long time students, echoed Master Nan's words as many of the great enlightened ones of old have done. Seeing the TAO is easy, what is hard is realizing the TAO. Master Nan picks up from his last book and again points the way with highlights from many other texts of enlightened individuals. With Master Nan's commentarys on these texts he pushes you to leap over your own boundaries of learning, better yet your discrimative mind of comprehension. Spelling error galore..

In preparation to get my VCP 6 certification, I've purchased this official study guide written by VMware gurus themselves. Suffice it to say, I feel like it's a bit of a ripoff. I had a feeling of what the contents would be like but the sad truth is, there's not much study guides in the market to prepare for this exam specifically. Therefore, I had to take a chance and good news is that at least my company will reimburse me for the purchase!

A big issue with this book is that there is a whole lot of spelling errors! And I mean very obvious errors. I read a lot of technical whitepapers and books and I have never in my life read an "official" technical materials book with this much spelling errors in it.

The second issue and one that I have the biggest gripe with is that a lot of the content seems to be copied and pasted from VMware's official Vsphere 6 Documentation website. Like literally, there are parts where word for word it looks exactly the same from the website counterpart. In the VMware's official documentation website, they actually have very good materials that cover all aspects of the exam objectives that you can download in PDF or eBook format. The problem is that it's not organized. The advantage with this study guide is that the authors presented the information so that they all align with the exam objectives so it gives you a sense of what you need to study and what objectives you need to work on if you are weak in that area. I have a feeling that if someone took the time to organize the information from all the study guides gathered from the VMware website and made it in such a way that it aligns with the exam objectives/topics, one could technically could skip this official study guide because you'll still be getting the same information along with some Google'ing around as well.

You'd think that by copying and pasting information from the website would at least somewhat make the information accurate. However, there were several instances where I caught things that did not relate to how vSphere 6 works but instead was for earlier versions! One example was the differences between a vMotion high priority vs standard priority. The book claims that if there is not enough resources to perform the former, the vMotion would fail. However, that was only the case in vSphere 4 and earlier. With vSphere 5 and later, the vMotion process would proceed regardless if enough resources were reserved.

I didn't take the official VCP 6 exam yet but will do so in about two weeks or so after posting this review. Does this study guide help? Sure, of course it did. It pinpointed some things that I needed extra work on and the inclusion of many diagrams help as well, although you should also have a lab at your disposal to see for yourself. Was it worth $45? Not really considering that majority of the information could also be had from VMware's official vSphere 6 documentation website. Basically, don't expect to get too much insider secrets or recommendations from these vSphere authors/experts and you should be fine.

Good guide overall

This book was one of my primary study tools towards the VCP6-DCV exam. I'm happy to say I passed the exam and largely credit this book for helping me catch some of the minutiae that I otherwise would have missed in the thousands of pages of VMware Technical Guides.

The book manages to present material in a memorable fashion. The Pearson Vue study software that comes with the book is also excellent.

My only two complaints are as follows:

1. The book presented concepts in a somewhat inconsistent way at times. For instance, in the chapter on VSAN and VVols, it kept bouncing between VSAN, VVols, and Multipathing, which made note taking a bit tedious.

2. The practice questions at the beginning and end of each chapter contained multiple errors, especially on the topics of Storage and Networking, in that what the book identified as correct answers, are proven wrong with both the book's own content and VMware Technical Guides.

Overall, it was an eminently useful study tool. The issues can easily be addressed through the release of errata or in the next edition.

Good solid prep book but not enough to pass.

I bought this book to supplement my studies for the VCP. It is a great book that covers all the topics of the exam. The book is largely free of errors with a few exceptions. Pearson provides updates to the errors on their site which was helpful. If you are new to VMware or lack enterprise level experience with VMware you will fail the exam if you use only this book as your study material. I have been working with VMWare for 10 years and this book was helpful in filling the gaps. For me I needed to brush up on VMware technologies that I had not used before because my jobs never purchased or pursued certain features of vSphere. So for someone who's worked in the trenches this book is perfect to put you over the hump to pass the exam. Best of luck.

BUY ONE LEVEL ABOVE FOR YOUR CHILD

Reviews of this product are accurate but definitely buy a level above our child's education. The stated age recommendations are just too easy and do not challenge your child. One level above usually mixes tings that they know vs some harder elements that will help them learn.

If you follow that one rule, this is a 5 star product that is fun and is a great educational tool. Its compact size plus genius plastic hinge keeps everything compact and easy to take around.

In the age of portable electronic devices, its nice to see a good old fashioned product like this that can keep the kids entertained just as well.

Is it really for Kindergarteners?

For some reason, the decks themselves say ages 4-5, rather than 5-6. Can't figure out why since the box (which was sealed)says Kindergarten 5-6. Content is way too easy for my 5 y.o. Disappointed...

Such a great concept

These are perfect to stick in your bag and take everywhere! Any time you are out with your child and need to wait around for things, or if you are making dinner and hanging out in the kitchen, whatever, these are fantastic to pull out and have a quick lesson!
The pictures are cute and easy to read, and the fact that they're attached together makes life much less difficult for me!

Gregory W. Fletcher is chairman of the Trades and Technology Department and director/instructor of the Electrical Technology program at Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield, Maine. With more than 30 years of experience in the electrical field, he has taught electrical wiring practices at the secondary level, apprentice level, and post-secondary level. He is also the author of THE ELECTRICIAN'S GUIDE TO PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM INSTALLATION, RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION ACADEMY: HOUSE WIRING WORKBOOK/LAB MANUAL, and GUIDE TO USING THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE. Licensed since 1976--first as a Journeyman and then as a Master Electrician--Mr. Fletcher holds an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Electrical Construction and Maintenance, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Technical Education, and a Master of Science Degree in Industrial Education. In addition, he is a member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors and the National Fire Protection Association.

Great book, lots of current real world examples

Great book, lots of current real world examples. Keeps things code compliant with the NEC with a easy to follow not too technical interface.
I used this as part of my instruction material for classes at Vector Technology Institute here in Jamaica.
A good teach yourself solar PV book, however I would still recommend you compliment your learning of PV systems with a recognized approved Solar PV course.
