An extra book for class, yet necessary for your understanding!

This is an excellent resource for my class in Purchasing Behavior. The exercises are beneficial to the concept behind the reasoning for why consumers shop the way that they do. All are applicable to modern society and provide excellent examples.

Brief and to the point.

I really liked this textbook because it's very short, and to the point. It outlines basic concepts of consumer behavior and though some of the chapters can have a lengthy explanation, most are pretty short. I took a consumer behavior class with this book, and I think it's good for teachers, because it is so easy for students to understand without a bunch of lengthy lectures.

A giant step in the study of our Electoral Behavior

It may be, that science in studying Voting Behavior has advanced since The American Voter was written.
This does not change the great contribution and, therefore, the importance of this pioneering work
on understanding how we all electorally behave. Simply put, we would never be where we are, if books
like The American Voter, Voting, People's Choice, A Spacial Theory of Voting, and others like them weren't
written. Science progresses, but that does not alter the value of every big step it takes. And The American
Voter is a giant step!

Classic for being first not best

This book is undoubtedly one of the important books ever written on voting. This does not mean it is one of the best. I can provide two reasons for this observation. First, the data they use is not as good as the modern data. Second, Partisanship has changed a lot in 40 years. Still a vital book for the library of any student of voting behavior.

Great Information

This is a wonderful comprehensive view of the different lenses through which we view others and oppress others. It's pretty heavy reading, so plan on spending a lot of time with it. Great for anyone who is in any type of helping profession: teachers, police officers, doctors, nurses, counselors, etc.

Middle-class sociology at its worst.

This book proves how rhetoric of "diversity and social justice" can be easily manipulated into serving the interests of the oppressive status quo. Readers with an interest in truly fighting exploitation and domination will not find much (if anything) that is helpful in this volume. The readings are carefully selected so as not to be offensive to the sensibilities of middle-class liberal American sociologists.

The editors even present Hilary Clinton's UN address as some sort of feminist statement! How anyone who is complicit in the mass killing of women of color in the middle east can be considered feminist is beyond me. The editors clearly do not understand, or do not care, how imperialism and mass slaughter are so often justified by presenting the ruling elite of an imperialist power as being "tolerant" or "enlightened." That is role of the liberal Democrats in the US. So why should their spokespeople be featured in a reader about social justice?!

There are one or two interesting articles in the book, but sociology readers who are interested in social justice, fighting oppression and inequality, and learning about the possibilities of feminism and revolutionary change should instead read something (anything) by Andrea Smith, Nadine Naber, Sylvia Federichi, Selma James, Walter Rodney, CLR James, Matilda Sycamore, or Dean Spade.

Lynchings and beyond

This book was on our living room table during the sixties. It was sad and frightening to read of the injustices committed by whites against blacks. My ancestors were slaves and my mother would recount the abuse they endured. The murders of unarmed blacks in today's world reminds me of the lynchings from the past. It appears that lynchings have been supplanted by a badge and a gun. The book should be a must read for getting a glimpse into the face of racism
